schools choosing not to take exchange students

    Posted by K on July 25, 2007

Our rep spoke with the largest private school in our county today (since the public schools had a July 1 deadline) and they said they can’t take foreign students. When she asked them to elaborate they said they only take foreign students if one of the parents is an American. That just sounded ridiculous to me; so I called and asked for an explanation. They said that because of September 11th, you have to specifically apply to say that you will take exchange students and they chose not to. This is a large school in one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. How can they be so backwards? Don’t they know that the only way to make things better and to keep events like September 11th from happening is to actually get to know other cultures and not just fearing all “foreigners”.  So now I’ve looked up some other ones that are exchange student friendly. I really don’t see how we’ll be able to host one now though at this late date.
